I love Fashion!

I could spend all day writing about fashion, so I picked two of my favorites from Paris fashion week that I thought had great concepts.

John Galliano's ready to wear collection for spring this year is amazing! It was shown at the Grand Opera Comique, which added a theatrical element to the show. Galliano's collection is said to be inspired by the famous Maria Lani. For those of you who don't know about her, she moved to Paris in the 1920's posing as an actress. This former stenographer spent two years convincing more than 50 artists to paint her portrait. She promised them that the painting's would be featured in a horror movie. In 1930 she held an exhibition and sold many of the paintings. After the exhibition she fled to America with the remaining paintings. She was painted by artists such as Henri Matisse, Jean Cocteau, and Marc Chagall.
I thought this concept was interesting because the models all had individual makeup and hair looks. The looks were meant to make each model a different portrait of Maria Lani.

Another one of my favorites is Christian Dior's Spring 2011 Couture collection.
Also designed by John Galliano, he paid tribute to illustrator Rene Gruau. Gruau worked for Dior in the forties and fifties and it is said that Rene helped create Dior's iconic image. The makeup was designed by the amazing Pat Mcgrath, and again I love it because of its fierce use of color. Lets give a round of applause to John Galliano this year for recreating retro fashion like we've never seen it before!
